ened. She'd forgotten about the jacket and pants, which she'd bought to wear to the wedding of one of her fellow officers, then relegated to the back of her closet the morning after the reception.
Josie held up the outfit with a triumphant grin.
"You'll look wonderful in this, dear." Josie handed her the clothes. After glancing at her watch D.J. hurried to the bathroom to change. Emerging moments later, she moved to the mirror above her dresser and adjusted the shoulder pads on the jacket, then fastened the single button at her waist. The gold and black tones complemented her fair skin and red hair. Even her eyes looked greener against the backdrop of gold.
"Here." Josie held out a pair of dangling gold earrings.
"Where'd you get there?" D.J. put them on, then gently shook her head. The earrings sparkled in the overhead light.
"They're mine. You can borrow them for tonight."
"Thanks." D.J. smiled.
"Now." Josie rubbed her hands together. "Let me help you with your makeup."
D.J.'s smile froze. "Makeup! I hate makeup. Yuck. I always want to scratch my face or rub it off."
"How about some mascara and lipstick? It will bring out your eyes."
"Don't have any."
Josie frowned. "I can't believe that. A young girl without makeup?"
"Believe it. Now reach in there," Josie pointed to
